Minor Characters
Your #0001 Fan contains a number of characters outside of its main cast, including recognizable characters from Ace Attorney canon as well as those created for the story. All of the canon characters are listed here, as well as the named non-canon characters.
Canon Characters
Dick Gumshoe
“Ah,” I nodded, and glanced over at the man who'd been the most frequent target of von Karma's rage, who looked not unlike a very large kicked puppy.
-Miss Martin, Chapter 3
Dick Gumshoe makes his first appearance in Chapter 3 of the story, assissting Manfred in his investigation of a murder at a city park. The investigation lasts until the evening due to the time it takes him to locate the murder weapon (a knife that landed in a tree). His desk and chair along with some of his pay is given to Miss Martin as punishment for this. He testifies in a trial the week after, though it becomes clear that he was kept entirely unaware of a vital piece of evidence in the case. Regardless, Manfred achieves a guilty verdict.
His next appearance is in Chapter 4 of Perfect for You, when he's invited to the beach by Manfred because of Miss Martin's request. The latter talks to him and convinces Manfred to give him a new desk, chair, and a raise.
He is invited to the wedding of Manfred and Miss Martin, and brings a bowl full of confetti to throw.
The Judge
The judge appears first in Chapter 5, and presides over the trial of Armand Glover. Throughout the trial, he's shown to be somewhat useless in front of Manfred von Karma, who takes over most of the court proceedings.
He also presides over the trial of Finn Allen in Chapter 15, and is stunned to see Manfred essentially giving up on the trial, but he does hand down a verdict of not guilty.
In the epilogue, he is the officiant for Manfred and Miss Martin's wedding, though it is clear he's never performed such a ceremony before, and merely substitutes a handful of words in his usual trial script.
Blaise Debeste
“Well, now who's this little thing?” The man stared at me with an intensity that made me want to look away.
-Blaise, immediately upon meeting Miss Martin, Chapter 7
Blaise Debeste was the Chief Prosecutor, responsible for punishing prosecutors who break any laws in the course of their jobs. He also assigned cases, including to Manfred von Karma. He appears in Chapter 7 when he comes into Manfred's office and quickly makes a negative impression on Miss Martin. She accidentally reveals that he clicked on the same phishing test that Manfred did, and the two mock Blaise for it. He leaves, and makes Miss Martin worry that he'll plan some kind of revenge.
He isn't seen in the story again, but as a result of Miss Martin obtaining all his records of evidence forgery and tampering, he is removed from his position as Chief Prosecutor and presumably jailed. Manfred replaces him as the new Chief Prosecutor.
Damon Gant
I'd never thought it would be so difficult to tell the difference between close friends and sworn enemies, until I saw Manfred and the chief of police spending time together.
-Miss Martin, Music
Damon Gant is the chief of police for Los Angeles, and self-proclaimed friend of Manfred. He has a jolly demeanor and enjoys teasing the prosecutor, especially through continued use of the nickname 'Manny' which inspires its use as a pet name by Miss Martin.
He is shown interacting with Manfred several times in the series, usually with Manfred showing great reluctance in conversing with him. But Manfred never actually tries to punish him as he does with Gumshoe; whether this is because he can't or because he secretly has some fondness for Damon is unclear.
He is invited to Manfred and Miss Martin's wedding, and briefly pulls the latter aside to reveal that he knows what she did to get Manfred to be Chief Prosecutor. He says that he used some 'favors' to remain in his position despite being listed as one of the corrupt individuals Blaise Debeste worked with.
Franziska von Karma
Franziska is Manfred's younger daughter, and once a prosecuting prodigy who earned a highly successful career in Germany. She comes back to visit Manfred in California on occasion, including once during the story.
Her personality is similar to her father's in some ways: she's standoffish to all except those she knows very well, and makes her ire clear to those who she feels deserve it. She's also shown to be very protective of her own father, threatening Miss Martin because she worries this new woman will be a repeat of his ex-wife. Eventually, she warms to Miss Martin when she sees a more genuine side of her and realizes that she's actually in love.
She appears at the wedding of her father and Miss Martin, along with her older sister and niece. She gets into an argument with her sister, insisting that ladders and stepladders are entirely different objects.
Miles Edgeworth
"You seem like a decent sort. I'm surprised to see someone like you working alongside…him.”
-Miles, to Miss Martin, Chapter 14
Though he is never explicitly named, Miles Edgeworth makes an appearance in Chapter 14 as a defense attorney opposing Manfred von Karma. He appears to be very familiar with the prosecutor's tactics, correctly predicting exactly what he's planning to do to win the trial.
He speaks with Miss Martin near the scene of the crime and tells her as much, leading her to confront Manfred. When he is eventually convinced to change his ways, Miles meets him in the courtroom and sees him surrender. He questions why Manfred would even show up to the trial in the first place, to which Manfred replies that he did it to make a point - not a point about corruption as he seems to state, but a point that he loves Miss Martin more than his winning streak. Miles doesn't appear in the main story after the trial.
Manfred's Older Daughter
Manfred's older daughter only appears in the story at her father's wedding. She's stated to resemble her father mostly in hair color alone, leaving the stern attitude to her younger sister. Though she is willing to argue with Franziska on the topic of ladders and stepladders, insisting that they're the same thing.
Frida
Frida is Manfred's granddaughter. She appears only at her grandfather's wedding, excited to have a new grandmother.
Though Manfred having a granddaughter is canon, her name is a creation of this fanfic, and it is inspired by her grandpa.
Non-Canon Characters
Todd the IT Guy
Todd was Miss Martin's supervisor and the only other employee in the prosecutors office IT department. He spends his days in the basement gaming whenever he can, and doing the bare minimum in his job. He states at one point that he went to Manfred's office because the prosecutor claimed his computer was broken, only to find that it was unplugged. Upon pointing that out, he had his salary cut.
In the second week of Miss Martin's employment, he allows her to send out a monthly phishing test email, and when he hears that Manfred fell for it, he immediately knows that she won't last much longer in her job. At the end of the week, Manfred makes her his assistant, and Todd assumes that's the last he'll see of her.
When she returns to the basement over a week later to get a new computer for Manfred, Todd is surprised she's still working for him, and thinks that she's still being tormented. When Miss Martin tries to defend him and says she got a recent bonus, Todd assumes she must've done something that causes a disgusted reaction in him (implied to be some kind of sexual favor).
He is invited to Manfred and Miss Martin's wedding, and is paid by Manfred for his time.
Armand Glover
Armand Glover was the defendant at the only trial Miss Martin witnessed. He murdered a woman in a city park around midnight, cutting her throat with a knife which he then attempted to throw away by hurling it into a tree. The knife was eventually found, but with no fingerprints on it, only blood. Later, through the efforts of Manfred von Karma and some unnamed detectives, a bloody glove with both the victim's DNA and Armand's was discovered.
When the glove was shown in court, Armand began shouting that Manfred had planted it, and the hesitation from the judge as well as the atmosphere in the courthouse made Miss Martin realize that it wasn't as absurd a claim as it seemed. Regardless, he was given a guilty verdict.
Anita Walker
Anita Walker is an elderly woman who testified as a witness at the trial of Armand Glover. She was walking her dog Fifi in the park when she saw the man fleeing, and later came across his victim. Though her testimony is challenged by the defense, her description of Armand wearing gloves eventually leads to a guilty verdict.
Manfred's Ex-wife
Manfred was married to a woman chosen for him by his family. Little is said of her in the story, but neither of them loved the other, and shortly after Franziska was born, Manfred found out that she had been cheating on him for an unknown period of time, with an unstated number of men. After this, he divorced her, making sure that she didn't get to keep a cent of his money and possibly even had to change her last name.
By the time of the story, Franziska despises her for what she did to her father, and assumes that Miss Martin will also harm him similarly, creating conflict between the two.
Frauke
Frauke is Franziska's horse. Little is known about her, but she's described as having a dappled gray coat with a black mane. Franziska first rode her when she was five years old.
Carrie Oki
Carrie is the owner of the karaoke bar visited by Manfred after his courtroom victories. She has known the von Karmas for over two decades and is on friendly terms with both Manfred and Franziska. Her bar was helped out of legal trouble by Manfred at one point.
Rainer Schein
Rainer is Manfred's chauffeur, and a somewhat taciturn man. He is only seen speaking once in any story despite driving Manfred and Miss Martin everywhere they need to go.
Hans Berndt
Hans is Manfred's chef, and is shown to be somewhat clumsy, but good at his job.
Colleen Hauss
Colleen is Manfred's maid, and is responsible for cleaning the whole manor. She is rarely seen throughout the story, and tries to remain hidden as she works.
She is a trans woman, and had her change of name and legal ID expedited by Manfred. This occured at some unspecified time after Franziska left for Germany.
Finn Allen
Finn Allen was the defendant, represented by Miles Edgeworth, in the first trial Manfred ever lost. He was accused of killing a coworker at an aquarium and disposing of his body by feeding it to a shark, and Manfred planned to forge both evidence of a weapon he used, and proof that human remains were found inside said shark. Though he did manage to get evidence of the weapon, he forfeited the trial regardless, and Finn was found not guilty.
